Burge was established in 1809 by the great-great-great grandfather of the present owner. Since that time its 1000 acres have supported row crops, cattle operations, and a dairy. In season (November-March) it is a private club.

Burge is on the National Register of Historic Places and has been recognized as a Georgia Centennial Farm. Its history includes a now renown published diary kept by Dolly Lunt Burge describing the 19th century rural life and her experiences at Burge as Sherman’s March to the Sea swept through the property.
